In collaboration with the British Geological Survey, we have developed a new sensor for detecting landslides which listens to the soil and rock as it starts moving, and produces an early warning message so that action can be taken.
Research
Geotechnics and Geomatics
Our research develops improved methods for modelling, designing and monitoring structural and geotechnical systems using computational and experimental approaches.
OUR AIM
We aim to increase understanding of interactions between earthworks, vegetation and climate change and produce guidance for the safety and resilience of infrastructure.
Our modelling and computational techniques for assessing the performance of new and existing structures under severe loading conditions have enhanced the accuracy of structural and geotechnical monitoring.
Our research addresses:
- Stability of slopes
- Reliability of soil-geosynthetic systems
- Enhanced sport infrastructure
- Digital photogrammetry and monitoring
CASE STUDIES
Revolutionising landslide detection and early warning
We have developed Slope ALARMS which detect impending landslides and provide early warnings.
